Anne & Henry is a modern retelling of Anne Boleyn and Henry Tudor's tragic relationship. I was looking forward to reading the book because I enjoy retellings and even though I knew exactly how the book would probably end. That being said, Anne & Henry was an incredibly frustrating read for me.

It is actually 3 novels in one. They are all about Katherine of Aragon and are about her life from a young girl to her death. It paints Katherine of Aragon as a very strong if not stubborn woman. Filled with historical facts as well as speculations as to how these people really were when alive makes this book well worth reading.

There are many, many books about Henry VIII, or the six wives of Henry VIII, or Anne Boleyn (Catherine of Aragon's successor/usurper), but I can't think of a single full-length biography of Catherine herself. Most of the books about Henry's wives act as if she only stepped onto the scene when Henry fell in love with Anne Boleyn.

Anne Rice's vampire chronicles made me love reading books. I mean, it didn't exactly start there. I can go back further in my childhood to other books, but as a "young adult" in my late teens, this series nailed it for me. I was captivated. They stayed with me and I thought about them for DAYS, weeks even. In retrospect, it was probably my first experience of "book depression." I wanted Lestat ...

Most portrayals of this queen have focussed on her later years when she was the suffering and unrelenting wife of Henry VIII, refusing to relinquish her position in order to make way for Anne Boleyn. However, this novel shows the early years, a side not often depicted, and we are offered a view into her childhood and upbringing. We see a princess brought up to be a leader and a warrior, and ...

Perfect for fans of Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir, The Boleyn Reckoning heralds the triumphant conclusion of Laura Andersen’s enthralling trilogy about the Tudor king who never was: the son of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn—Henry IX—who, along with his sisters and those he holds most dear, approaches a dangerous crossroads. The Tudor royal family has barely survived a disastrous winter.

Abandoning novels feels sort of cruel, like letting a whole bunch of people just fade out of your life without trying hard enough to get to know them, so generally speaking if I get past the first chapter I won't give up on a novel. It does happen though: Anne Rices Interview with a Vampire and Marcel Prousts The Guermantes Way come to mind, so at least my abandoned novels are fairly diverse ...

The timeline was condensed (thankfully, as the some seven year courtship that Anne Boleyn & Henry VIII had would’ve made for a very slow plot otherwise!) which gave the story a great pacing, it was quick and intense just like their romance and it really added to the whirlwind feel of it all – very atmospheric. The modern twists on history were ingenious and I loved all the little nods to ...

Anne Boleyn was executed on 19 May 1536. Although the executioner from Calais was ordered even before she was tried and found guilty, no one took care of a proper burial for Anne Boleyn.
